balls meet foot and other first friday stuff

i'm moving into a new apartment. not at this exact second, clearly, as i'm writing in this thing. actually its not even an apartment, its a house, which is pretty special and grown up of me. its big and beautiful just like i love my women (black).
i think most of all, i love that half of the light fixtures in the house resemble single boobs, which will be amazing when i only have to use one half of my Carmen Electra poster on the ceiling (the other half can hang in the bathroom).*
next week i'll post a picture of said light fixture, you'll agree, i know you will.

on to more pressing matters...

TOMORROW NIGHT!
the compound does not have a show, its still break time for us which means you have all the time in the world to go to all the other amazing shows that are happening in this wonderful city.

one of which i have drawings in, so i'll talk about it for shameless self promotion...

AHNVHS debut exhibition
Rack and File: selected works from the flat file
May 1st - May 30th, 2009
Opening: Friday May 1st, 7-10pm

featuring works on paper by numerous artists including Mark Price, Caitlin Emma Perkins, Matt Leines, Alex Lukas, Josh Shaffner, Julianne Ahn, Lauren van Haaften-Schick, Jason Andrew Turner, and others.
i havent actually been up the the
AHNVHS space yet, but i got the lowdown last weekend and it sounds pretty rad. predominately focusing on works on paper, along with gallery shows, they have a flat file on hand for parishioners to pull out, and thumb thru a collection of affordable works on paper by many artists in varying media. good stuff. check it out.

down the street at Space 1026 is
The Moth, the Flame, the Returning Comet, & the Golem
a show by Derek Weisberg and Matt Rebholz
Opening this Friday, May 1, 7-10pm,1026 Arch St.

Derek Weisbergs sculptures are intense man, i first saw him pop up while i was surfing the information super highway a few years ago back. Matt Rebholz makes dark little fuckers that will suck you in and spit you out. good stuff

and if you want to travel a bit south check out the brilliant show at the Pageant Gallery, by Matthew Osborne "My Bones – Your Skin."
i went by last weekend and was blown away. tons of stuff that'll inspire the hell out of you. that gallery consistently gets me excited and energized. keep it up.

good travels, everyone enjoy yourselves, stay safe, and dont do drugs

*i dont actually own a Carmen Electra poster unfortunately (why are you selling one?)

We lost a good dame..

The compound wishes to pay respect to Bea Arthur as she died at the age of 86 the other day. We were all fans of her work. So big of fans of her and the Golden Girls in fact that a few of us dressed up as the Golden Girls a couple of years ago for Halloween (this is SPOOKY causes it's in orange).
Anyway here's two photos for your enjoyment. Co
mpare and contrast. I personally think I am a more handsome version of Bea Arthur. No disrespect Bea but facts are facts.

All Joosed Up

Unfortunately my performance in the tournament was mediocre at best.
The reason, Joose....

This drink's taste was described to me by one attendee of the festival as " a part feet, part sweat, part sperm and little taste of a nine volt battery at the end."
I couldn't pass it up with such a winning review.
After drinking four out of five available flavors, I found myself out of the tournament in the first round but yet somehow still feeling like a winner.
I recommend that if you see it in the store you "Let the Joose Loose" as one of the t-shirts says in their online store.
Take in the the website, spread the word.

Also will traveling, I visited the Detroit Airport as part of my connecting flight.
In Detroit when you need to get from concourse A to B you have to walk through an underground tunnel.
It's kind of weird and strange walking through it.
By the multi colored lights, new age music and general ambiance of the tunnel, I've come to the conclusion whoever designed it was clearly on drugs.

Severe Good Times Advisory for the Residents of the Carolinas

Attention friends of the Compound in the Carolinas, there is a shit storm of good times coming through this weekend and it's name is me, Adam Pietras.

I'm off the the Carolinas to meet with some esteemed associates of mine this weekend. While there I be attending a great festival known as the Peach Gasper Festival in Clemson, SC.
What is this festival all about? For the most part drinking, good times and capturing the coveted crown in their QUOITS TOURNAMENT.
What's QUOITS?
It's better than fucking horseshoes I'll tell you that much.

I'll be back with a full report.

Fuck You, Larry Bird

At the beginning of the week the compound wrapped up it's march madness tournament bracket challenge.
This year the crown went to Justin Berry.
Justin was the first place out of three total participants. I came in last. But in true fashion of the compound, we all ended up winners as Justin shared his winnings with us while watching the Championship Game. You're a class act Mr. Berry.
Here's Justin holding up his winning bracket with fridge full of beer he won, bought courtesy of the losers.

The game was not that exciting at all, North Carolina ended up the champs..
What concerned me was the half time report.
At the half the network had an interview with Larry Bird concerning the 30th anniversary of the championship game that pitted him against Magic Johnson.
When his name came up on the screen underneath it read , 1979 NCAA Championship Runner-up.
Really CBS?
All you can put under a guy name's who had a hall of fame basketball career is a reminder that he lost 30 years ago.
Good lesson to teach any kid watching the game. Way to say no matter what you do some asshole will remind of your failures one day. Great coverage dicks.

With that I'll be expecting someone to remind in 2039, that Justin won.
