A few things...

Hello Compound Supporters!!
Okay, there are a few things coming up outside of our little Warehaus next month that I thought might spark your interest…

If you have been to the Italian Market lately, you may have noticed that Molly’s Bookstore is now Bella Vista Natural Foods. This small operation is already making big changes, and should be a great asset to the neighborhood. The store is on its way to becoming a co-op, and is dedicating a large amount of wall space to hang works by local artists. The first show will have a small opening reception on March 20th (the first day of Spring!!). It will be a group show, so if you are interested in contributing, the theme is, of course… FOOD!! (which is always fun)
For more information, please contact Jason Rivera at riv.jason@gmail.com.

1010 S. 9th Street
open daily until 7pm

Okay, so next on the agenda is Mew Gallery.
It is time for their annual PAY THE RENT EVENT! What is this, you ask? Well, it's an annual fundraiser to help pay for things like rent. And electricity. This is always a very slow time of year, and we want Mew to stay open!! I spend a lot of time at this store, so what would I do with my Sundays or free time before work if they weren't around??

PAY THE RENT EVENT will be held TUESDAY March 3rd from 6-10pm at the South Philly Tap Room.
There will be a silent auction and raffles, as well as drink specials, DJs, and dancing.
A $5 donation is suggested at the door, and there will be lots of excellent artwork and crafts to be raffled off! Please stop by! If you are interested in donating work to be auctioned or raffled, you can contact mewgallery@yahoo.com.

Thanks!!
Erin

THE ARTS AND FARTS AND HEARTS SHOW....

TONIGHT (Feb.13th) @ Jinxed is the 3rd annual Heart Show. I have been in this show for the last two years and it is always a great show. This year there is over 85 artists participating including such familiar faces as Miriam Singer, Erin Broadhurst, Ryan Beck, Jason Turner , Alex Curtis, Erin King, Andrew Johnson-Lally and many more that have participated or contributed to the Compound Cause.
So don't be lame, come out and support us. Remember these days the best thing you can invest in is art. Do your part, come take in some great creative pieces of art and help "bailout" out some artists. Cause the government isn't gonna do shit for us, we don't like to wear suits to work.
Once more ...
tonight Jinxed
620 south 4th st.
6 - 10 pm
3rd Annual Heart Show.
over and out.....

thank you!

Thank you to everyone that came out on Friday for Andrew Johnson-Lally's first solo show "the faint smell of death." we had a great time and hope all of you did as well.
Congratulations to black metal andrew, his insanely intricate and moody chalk & charcoal drawings were a hit, by the end of the night there was a red dot under each of them. not too shabby if you ask me.
here are some photos that do absolutely no justice to the intensity of each piece...

the man, the myth, and his parents.
as always more photos of our show, along with photos from the art in the age show "The Great Lincoln Memorial Tableaux" and a few from Vox Populis first friday show can be seen HERE!

TOMORROW!!! FIRST FRIDAY!!!

Andrew Johnson-Lally is good people. I've known him for a good minute now so it’s exciting to give this little introduction…

Andrew Johnson-Lally received his BFA in illustration/graphic design and a minor in art history from the Savannah College of Art and Design. That’s where I met him, where everyone knew him only as Black Metal Andrew and his common disposition was unharshed mellows and general good times, sharp as a tack and a unrelenting since of humor.
He’s been tattooing (I like calling it ink slangin, or giving tattoodles) since 2003 and currently sits in a chair on fourth street for Body Graphics putting pictures on people. He enjoys cats, denim, and standing on Scandinavian mountains doing inspirational poses. (see below)

His impressive artistic talent sits in the realm of crisp, technique driven paintings and drawings generally darker in subject matter. I am consistently knocked off my feet by his ability and wild imagination, which is why we at the Compound Warehaus are proud and pleased to host his very first Philadelphia Solo show entitled "The Faint Smell of Death" opening this Friday February 6th, 2009.
We extend the invitation to any and all to stop in check out the walls, meet the man, and enjoy our company. As usual it kicks off at 6 and rides into the night, treats and adult refreshments as always. Come start your February off right, it’ll end up being pretty epic.

Unfortunately i have this job that requires me to sit in front of a computer for an unheard of amount of time. and with this time, what do i find?
lots of bullshit.
heres todays.
if i've learned anything from living in america, its that we (as a people) are always right. and everyone else has got it terribly terribly wrong. however, sometimes (just sometimes) we just dont bother to go the distance which is where other countries come in to make our stuff seem boring and unoriginal.

the Japanese poster for First Blood is a clear front runner on how that movie could have looked so much cooler. i dont remember that scene but it looks badass.
as for this French King Kong poster. i'll let you make your own rhetoric.
lots of stuff this week. make a check back.
also, happy birthday to Chief turning the big 12 yesterday. they grow up so fast.
