LORDY LORDY LORDY (compound mixtape)

shit dudes.

do you like music?
we at the compound like music. ask around, they'll probably all agree on that. with that in mind, i made a little rock/soul/funk "mixtape" for all of you 'net surfers to listen to while youre making slow wide turns. it'll will turn your ears into hot butter and explode the shit right out your pants. if that doesnt sound like a good time, then please keep in mind that i have the mental capacity of a 12 year old and to me that combination of words sounds killer. basically, i want ya'll to enjoy this piece of warm pie sitting on the preverbal windowsill...

photos from the Compound x UO reception

Much thanks to everyone that made it down to the philadelphias historic navy yard for our show at the urban outfitters gallery at their home office. thats a lot of long location names and for a first sentence, and for that, i apologize.

I really love participating in group shows that showcase individual vision, there always seems to be something for everyone, and i love it even more when those participating are also some of my best friends, studio mates, and gallery running cohorts. whereas our artistic third eyes are typically turned on to different influences, the mix and match of our work and its varied direction portrayed the vibe i get when i'm stooled up in my studio next to all these shitty people.

naturally i wanted to call the show "Jamaican me crazy, Compounding me hard', but no one else was really feeling that so we just went with "compound warehaus" which, i guess is much more of a descriptor than mine. heres a few pictures of the show...

bill sands killed it with these paper cut out collage pieces.

jason andrew turner "a light in the window is a crack in the sky" 1-25. i'm pretty jazzed on this series, i hope you are too.

erin broadhurst delved further into her stream of consciousness word drawings based on dreams and past tales.

adam pietras hand worked the fuck out of multiples in “The delicate balance

miriam singers giant "red map 3"

more miriam singer. the piece on the right is my favorite drawing of hers, reminds me of the garden of earthly delights by hieronymus bosch which is never a bad thing.

ryan beck delivered the goods proper.

derrick wesley mcnew, luis cancel angel, and alex curtis have always down for the cause and bestowed us with these guys

people were really stoked on justin berry, tanya, and nema etebar

thanks again to everyone that came out! its up for the month of may. if you get a chance, make it down there and check it out.

for more pictures of the art work you didnt see and a few shots from the reception before i got intoxicated click HERE.

BON VOYAGE, OLD FRIEND

For the last 12 years I 've had the honor of hanging out with Chief. Chief, the host of all of our events. Chief always looking "sleak and handsome" in his tux.

I met Chief in a trailer park at Skidway Island, Georgia. He was the last of the litter. I know it sounds like a bad country song but it is true.

Since that moment, we had a blast. From traveling up and down the East Coast sharing Slim Jims and Doritios to drinking a little too much and sleeping in all day. No matter what the scenario Chief was at my feet. Just hanging out and relaxing.

Chief was a dog of all vices. He worked hard and partied harder. Although he never paid me any rent. He loved beer, eating cigarette butts, peeing on stuff, and getting into the trash (even while blind his last year and half here, he was a smart little fucker).

He only hated the sound of thunder, fireworks, and ballons.

So before he left us here we sent him off with a Bon Voyage week.
That included....
Fast Food Feasts..

Drinking only the finest of hops and barley...
.
Good Spirited debates about wide range of topics...

He gave advice to his friend, Kibby, telling her not to let her broken leg get her down.

He told his friends, Justin, Pomp and Alex to stick it to the man whenever possible. And then posed for one final photo op.

The night ended with Chief and I doing one final dance. Here's a photo of the best part of it....

See one of the endless reason I love Chief is he never put baby in the corner. And by baby I mean me.

But one a serious note, I would like to thank all of you through the years and here at the Compound that showed so much hospitality and love toward Chief. If any of you that reads this has an awesome picture of the little guy you would like to share feel free to email it to the compound at
compoundwarehaus@verizon.net.
Thanks.
